Ritucharya: The Seasonal Regimen

How many of us know the number of seasons in a year?

Is it 3?

4??

5???

And how many of us are aware that with change in season we need to make changes in our lifestyle?!

Ayurveda, a science written for mankind, made sure that it was applicable and acceptable to people across the globe; throughout the year. And one such unique concept which supports this universality of Ayurveda is “Ritucharya“.

Changes in the external environment bring about changes in our internal environment. Thus, to maintain homoeostasis modifications need to be made for prevention and progression of disease. Ayurveda has described 6 seasons and the regimen to be followed during each of them based upon the doshic variations. A basic understanding of this has been tabulated below:

Seasons have got many variables even in the same country, but by defining the climatic status in a region we can chalk out appropriate models of doshic derangements and follow the principles of ritucharya accordingly. These guidelines for each ritu in particular will be discussed in our subsequent posts.
