The second season in adaanakaala is “VASANTA” or spring which begins around 15th March and lasts upto 15th May. According to the Indian calendar it covers the months of chaitra and vaishakha.
This season is characterised by hot sun rays which liquefy the accumulated kapha dosha leading to it’s prakopa. This aggravated kapha dosha weakens the digestive fire causing various diseases. The physical strength too drops down to moderate.
Therefore, consumption of heavy, cold and unctuous food items predominant of sour and sweet tastes are contraindicated during vasanta ritu. Sleep during day time should also be avoided.
Details of food, regimen and therapeutic procedures to be followed during this season will be discussed in “Vasanta Ritucharya – II.”
