The Ayurvedic term for health “swasthya” surpasses the simplistic notions of ‘freedom from illness’ or ‘a positive state of well being’. Instead it denotes a state of being rooted or placed in one’s self in terms of physical, mental, social and spiritual well being.
However, maintenance of health, causation of disease and treatment of disorders at these 4 levels are once again dependent on 4 factors viz. ahaara (eating habits), vihaara (daily routine), achaara (conduct) and vichaara (thoughts). This is what we call the RULE-OF-4-FOR-4.
